Description

Merwida - The Merwida winery belongs to the Van der Merwe family. In 1840 they emigrated from Dordrecht to South Africa. In Dordrecht they had a castle on the Merwede River. Now the family lives on the Breede River which, unusually enough, is very similar to the river of their ancestors on their estate in the Netherlands. The 7th generation of winemakers now runs the company. They make beautiful wines while preserving nature, taking care of the Papenkuils Wetland, the protected nature area at the Breede River, which is why they were named WWF Champion by the World Wildlife Fund.
