Gentse Strop; A fruity and complex aroma with notes of banana, citrus, spices, yeast, honey and sweet malt. After the
first sip gives a refreshing feeling in the mouth, with a pleasant flavour of malt, followed
by spicy and yeasty notes. The beer has a medium-long finish with a mild hop bitterness.

Gentse Strop owes its name to the proud Gentenaars, nicknamed "noose bearers". When the Gentenaars refused to pay extra war taxes in 1540, Charles V ordered the notables of Ghent to go around with a noose around their necks as a sign that they deserved the gallows. To this day, the noose is the symbol of proud resistance to any form of tyranny and misplaced authority. Gentse Strop is a tribute to everyone who takes pride to heart...

Gentse Strop is part of brewery Roman. A century-old Belgian brewery with an endless passion for creating the sublime taste sensation...

The story begins in 1545 with Joos Roman, who is in Mater, part of Oudenaarde, a sort of
had bed and breakfast called "The Clocke" along the trade route from Germany to France. There was
an inn, a farm, a flour mill, a malting plant and a brewery. Brewing beer at the time was
just one of the many activities that took place there; only later did it become the main activity of the
family...

The current imposing buildings and courtyard date from 1930, around this time the Brewery was
Roman transformed into a limited liability company. Under Louis Roman's leadership, the
brewery from a primarily lager-producing business to one with a diversity
to speciality beers that resonated with a wider audience of beer lovers and often won awards
won in competitions. The introduction of Sloeber (1983), Ename Abbey beers (1990), Mater white beer
(1993), Black hole (2005) and Gentse Strop (2011) accelerated the growth of the
brewery.

Today, the Brewery is run by 14th-generation Carlo and Lode Roman. With feeling
for tradition and an eye for innovation, they too take the art of brewing to the highest standard
